An ADHD assessment begins with an initial consultation with the family, during which an ADHD screener is conducted and information is gathered about the child’s developmental, family, and academic history; parents are encouraged to bring report cards and other relevant school documents, as understanding behavior across settings is essential. If further assessment is warranted, evidence-based instruments are used, typically including questionnaires completed by both parents and teachers, and at least one in-person session is held with the child to observe behavior and gather their perspective. Once all information is collected, the examiner prepares a comprehensive report detailing the findings and, if appropriate, provides a diagnosis along with specific recommendations to support the child at home and at school. The process concludes with a feedback session for the parents—and the child when appropriate—where results are reviewed and any questions are addressed.

Art therapy combines the therapeutic process with creative expression, offering a supportive

approach that allows clients to explore emotions, experiences, and inner patterns in ways that

extend beyond words. By integrating art making with verbal reflection and processing, clients

can access insight and expression at their own pace.

A wide range of creative materials may be used, including drawing, painting, collage, and other

art based approaches, depending on the client’s interests and comfort level. No previous art

experience is needed. The focus is not on artistic skill or the finished artwork, but on the

meaning and emotional understanding that emerge through the creative process. Sessions are

thoughtfully adapted to each client’s needs, comfort level, and goals.

Massage Therapy

At The Calm Place, massage therapy is more than just relaxation — it’s a pathway to healing, restoration, and balance. Our skilled massage therapists create a serene, supportive environment where each session is tailored to your individual needs — whether you're seeking relief from tension, recovery from stress, or a moment of peace.

Allanna Ward holds a Master’s degree in Creative Arts Therapies (Art Therapy). She believes that meaningful therapeutic work begins within a safe, collaborative, and non-judgmental relationship. She works alongside clients to create a supportive and responsive therapeutic process, where individuals are encouraged to explore their inner experiences, develop insight, and notice patterns.

Allanna’s work is grounded in trauma-informed and relational care, with creativity offered as a therapeutic resource rather than a requirement. Art-making is introduced gently and flexibly, and clients do not need prior art experience or to identify as “creative” to benefit from art therapy. The focus is on process rather than product, with materials used to support reflection, expression, and self-understanding alongside conversation.

In her work, Allanna supports clients in reconnecting with their inner resources and developing awareness of how experiences are held emotionally and somatically. She recognizes that stress, relational patterns, chronic pain, and life transitions often live beyond words, and she works with clients to explore these experiences at a pace that feels respectful and manageable.

Allanna brings experience working in both individual and group settings across varied clinical contexts. She has supported adults navigating a range of concerns, including anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, identity exploration, eco-anxiety, and life transitions. She approaches this work with attention to how social context, identity, and lived experience shape emotional well-being. She has also worked with older adults and individuals living with chronic pain, cognitive changes, and complex medical conditions. These experiences have informed her sensitivity to issues of loss, identity shifts, resilience, and the emotional impact of illness, caregiving, and chronic stress.

Allanna is committed to offering a thoughtful and respectful therapeutic space and values working with clients across a wide range of lived experiences. Having returned to Newfoundland, she is deeply invested in serving the St. John’s community and feels honoured to walk alongside clients as they explore healing, agency, and resilience.

Allanna is a Professional Member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She offers individual and group sessions with young adults and adults within a collaborative group practice setting.
